Biography

James advises business, individuals and families with regards to business formation and governance, estate planning and tax matters including forming LLCs, partnerships, corporations and non-profit entities; drafting and reviewing contracts, shareholders agreements, and merging and acquiring businesses; business succession planning, wills, trusts, durable powers of attorney and health care directives; tax planning and advisement for estate planning, business operations, tax free reorganizations as well as tax reviews by the IRS including tax liens and levies. James’ clients include ranchers and farmers, local teachers and law enforcement officers, real estate developers and agents, manufacturers, professionals, and retirees.

James was raised in California and returned after time living in Alaska, Guadalajara, Mexico, and Washington, DC. Before attending law school, James worked in diverse occupations including the U.S. Senate and his grandfather’s cattle and grain exporting operation in Southern California. During law school, James worked at the United States District Court for the Southern District of California, where he served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Anthony J. Battaglia and at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Civil Division. James served as the Executive Lead Articles Editor on Law Review and as the Executive Director of the Moot Court Honors Board. After graduation, James continued his legal studies earning a Masters of Law in Taxation at top-ranked Georgetown University where his professors included industry leaders of taxation from the IRS, the Department of Treasury and the top practitioners from accounting and tax law firms. James was a writer and editor for a wealth strategies publication before starting his own practice handling tax, business and estate planning issues.

James is active in the Boy Scouts of America, where he serves as a Scoutmaster, the Rotary club and many other non-profit boards where he shares his legal experience and insights.
